Why does the beatles music beat anything these days by a country mile?
I am 24. I should be in to "contemporary" pop music - I do like a lot of it, but the way I see it, pop songwriting talent does not really exist these days - you have two types these days: 1 - teenage angst music like the arctic monkeys, kasabian etc and 2 - pseudosoulful rubbish like amy winehouse, david grey, damien rice etc. Theres no acts which can consistently write decent music through different genres. Its like music has compartmentalised and bands only write for one type of audience, and theres no real innovation. The recent bands draw heavily on 70 acts like the clash/ramones, the last decent band music was britpop to a certain extent. I am a big lover of hip-hop, britpop and a lot of 90s stuff, but it doesnt come close to what the fab four achieved. nothing comes close. Are the beatles an anomoly, like mozart, beethoven etc? ideas please
