Inferential Statistic Question?

We are testing the Null Hypothesis that the average student-registered car at a University is 6 years old, against the Alternate Hypothesis that it is older, at the 5% level of significance. A sample of 48 registered vehicles has an average age of 5.35 years. Why, without further computation, should we Retain the Null Hypothesis?
