There was a period when the world had several women leaders. What is the position now?

We had Indira Gandhi, Golda Meir, Sirimavo Bandaranaika, Benazir Bhutto, Mrs Sukarto?, Margaret Thatcher. Have we gone low in women's participation in Politics? In US how many state governors are women? Isn't it surprising that suddenly there is vacuum and some countries have never produced women politicians?
