I want to start quilting, but have never really sewed. Please help where should i begin?

I have been wanting to start quilting because i think it would be a great hobby i would like. I don't have any idea on where to start. I tried to read this one website but couldn't really understand some of the terms. Could someone tell me where to start and what i need to get started? I really have no sewing skills and i really don't want to buy a sewing machine until i am sure this is what i want to get into. Please help me??
